Christmas Auction

  • St John’s Church St John's St Godalming GU7 3EJ (map)

A one-off opportunity to own a framed photo of saxophonist Tony Kofi taken by award winning photographer John Lyons in aid of the Cheryl King Trust, supporting young musicians from low income families.

Tony Kofi at the Pheasantry,  Chelsea, March 2023

“Tony is one of the UK’s leading saxophonists, composers and band leaders, and has twice won the BBC Jazz Awards. I have photographed Tony a few times over the years, both in groups where he was leading and where he was performing with other singers. This shot was taken of him performing with jazz singer Lauren Lucille.

For most of the show, Tony stood out of the spotlight towards the back of the small stage and I was keen to get shot of him as he moved out of the dark into the spotlight.

So, when he stepped forward for a brief moment during a solo, I clicked the shutter and caught this shot. You can see the darkness across the right hand side of the image as he is partially lit up by the spotlight.”

John Lyons, Winner of the 2022 Abbey Road Studios award for Live Music Photography
