December Lunchtime Jazz: Stuart Henderson & Dave Newton

A very special lineup for this last lunchtime Jazz of the year with Stuart Henderson and David Newton.

Formerly principal trumpet of The Scots Guards Band in Her Majesty’s Household Division, Stuart Henderson played many times for the Royal Family and at State occasions all over the world. Since leaving the services Stuart has become a fixture on the UK jazz scene appearing with many of the countries finest jazz musicians.

Pianist David Newton needs little introduction: 16 times winner of Best UK Jazz Piano Player (British Jazz Awards), he was made a Fellow of Leeds College of Music in 2003. His reputation as an accompanist is unparalleled and he has featured on numerous recordings since the mid-80s.

With Guildford Jazz anchor Marianne Windham on bass.

The lunchtime jazz is held in the Cafe at the Guildford Institute, which boasts a baby grand piano as well as delicious food. Food is served from 12 to 2pm, followed by live jazz performance from 2pm to 3pm

The performance is upstairs in the historic Assembly Room at The Guildford Institute, Ward St, North St, Guildford GU1 4LH

Please note there are no physical tickets, just give your name on the door when you arrive.

The café – V Café at the Institute – has been run by Nick Humble since 2019. Joined by his friendly team, they offer a welcoming space to relax, have a coffee, and enjoy delicious vegetarian and vegan lunches. The regularly changing menu is based on seasonal, locally-sourced produce. Their vegetables are grown by The Halow Project and they also offer freshly-roasted Surrey Hills coffee..
