JuLY lunchtime jazz: kate williams trio

  • The Guildford Institute, Ward St, North St, Guildford GU1 4LH Guildford (map)

Pianist/composer Kate Williams (daughter of guitarist John Williams) has gained a reputation as both a distinctive writer and performer. She has released several CDs, each one to critical acclaim. In 2016 she formed Four Plus Three, an ensemble featuring her trio with string quartet. The following year, they performed at the 606 with special guest John Williams (Kate’s father) on guitar. John also features on Kate’s album with vocalist Georgia Mancio: Finding Home: Kate Williams’ Four Plus Three Meets Georgia Mancio. It won album of the year at the 2020 Parliamentary Jazz Awards.

We are delighted to welcome Kate to our lunchtime jazz at the Institute with her trio which also features the wonderful Dave Ingamells on drums, and Marianne on bass.

“…crisp, incisive and totally at one with the rhythmic ebb and flow.”

“Williams has a quality rare among jazz composers: a musical vocabulary that’s all her own” The Observer ****
The performances are held in historic Assembly Room at The Guildford Institute . Lunch is available from 12 to 2pm, and the performance is a single one-hour set from 2 to 3pm, Capacity is limited so early booking is advised.
