DAVE LEWIS QUARTET

US tenor saxophonist Dave Lewis is a soulful and funky player with a natural affinity to the Jazz/ R&B greats like Dexter Gordon, King Curtis and Joe Henderson.

With Robin Aspland, one of the most accomplished pianists and accompanists in the UK, who has recorded and performed with Curtis Steigers, Norma Winstone, Stacey Kent, Claire Martin, Van Morrison, Arturo Sandoval, George Coleman, Peter King, BBC Big Band and many more, the extraordinary Rod Youngs on drums, and Guildford Jazz anchor Marianne Windham on double bass.

This event will be held at the Stoke Hotel in Guildford - the original home of Guildford Jazz, but our first event here! Tickets are available at a special introductory price of £16 (£14 for Guildford Jazz members).

EVENT INFO

The performance is i the function room of The Stoke, 103 Stoke Road, Guildford, GU1 4JN

The function room has it’s own entrance, behind the pub, and it’s own toilets and private bar.

There is a small car park outside the pub but we would recommend parking at the Guildford College student car park, Stoke Road GU1 1EZ (located off the Recreation road roundabout). Parking is free after 6pm and is a couple of minutes walk from The Stoke .

Please note there are no physical tickets, just give your name on the door when you arrive.

Doors open from 7.15pm, and the performance starts at 8pm. There will be an interval and there is a licensed bar. Seating is cabaret style, and will be reserved for you.

WHO'S PLAYING?

DAVE LEWIS - TENOR SAX

Dave Lewis is an American saxophonist, resident in the UK. A consummate, passionate performer who is well respected in the fields of Jazz, Dance, Soul and Rock, Dave has toured and recorded throughout the United States, Europe and Japan, and has made numerous TV, Radio and Video appearances. Since living in the UK he’s worked with John Martyn, Bryan Ferry, Tommy Chase, John Mayall, Lamont Dozier and Eric Clapton amongst many others. Dave’s playing is soulful and funky with a natural affinity to the Jazz and R&B greats, such as Dexter Gordon, King Curtis and Joe Henderson. He is known for his distinctive tenor sound and individual approach. Dave is an honours graduate from the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and a well-known in demand player on the London jazz scene. He also leads his seven piece band, ’Dave Lewis’ 1UP’ as well as playing and recording with the Blockheads.
